Fabulous 2 Cendol Bakar

Updated: Mar 30, 2018

(Syahirah Adilah)

Cendol Bakar was located at Kuala Selangor at Kampung Assam Jawa and is a road side food stall selling cendol. The recipe is based on the owner’s granddad, Encik Abu Bakar Saidin. Apparently the place call Cendol Bakar because they flambe gula Melaka with arang (charcoal) before melting it down as part of their preparation for the cendol ingredients and the name of the owner Mr. Bakar. So the name Cendol Bakar is suitable since it carries the name of the recipe owner and the way of preparing it.

Traditionally, cendol is an iced dessert, made with coconut milk (santan), palm sugar and green worm-like jelly made with pandan leaves (screwpine leaves). The cendol is very delicious with roasted / burnt taste that mix very well with the creamy coconut milk. In addition , inside Cendol Bakar that also had a stall selling fried banana cheese.

Opens:

Weekdays: 11am – 6pm, Weekends: 10am –7.00 pm to drive through concept as well. The Malaysian Foundation for Innovation has awarded Cendol Bakar for drive-thru innovation.

There are 6 varieties of cendol to choose from:

  • Cendol – RM2.50

  • Cendol VIP – nata de coco + selasih + jagung + kacang – RM 3.00

  • Cendol VVIP – pulut + nata de coco + selasih + jagung + kacang – RM 3.50

  • Cendol tapai – pulut  + nata de coco + selasih + jagung + kacang – RM 4.00

  • Cendol pulut tapai – pulut + tapai + nata de coco + selasih + jagung + kacang – RM 5.00

  • Cendol durian – durian + nata de coco + selasih + jagung + kacang – RM 5.50

  • Cendol durian pulut – pulut + durian + nata de coco + selasih + jagung + kacang – RM 6.00

The gula Melaka used to be authentic, the coconut milk was fresh and creamy, and the ice was finely shaven. It was a proper cendol alright, and with the tapai and pulut, made for a pretty delicious and quite filling bowl of dessert. Cendol Bakar also offers free cendol for those who carry JKM cards (the disabled and the poor). What is interesting is that the stall serves ‘bottomless’ dessert, which means you can ask for second and third free-of-charge and one of the best things about Cendol Bakar is that it is refillabl , enjoy as much as you can and the price here is really cheap.

They have branches in Melaka and Port Dickson as well. Make sure to look for their registered trademark , logo as there are many copy cats of Cendol Bakar around. Do support the original.
